Saturday lunch: Tasty cheeseburger, crispy slow roasted pork shoulder with chorizo aioli sandwich, and mint iced tea from 4505 Meats stall at the Farmers Market.

Served sans buns and doused in a “demi-glace,” Japanese hamburgers are a tastier and juicier rendition of the infamous Salisbury steak. Cafe Mami in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is where I had my first taste, and I’m addicted to their Wafu Hamburg Steak, which is marinated in a reduction of soy sauce, citrus, and ginger. I haven’t found a recipe that tastes quite like it, but luckily, the one I have turned out to be a hit with my friends and family

A simple and tasty appetizer to make is poke (pronounced as poh-keh), a Hawaiian ceviche of cubed and seasoned sashimi. The fun part is dressing the poke to your liking. You can serve with a scoop of steamed rice, tortilla chips, crostini, or crispy rice cake (like Chaya Brasserie’s “Spicy Ahi Tuna over a Crispy Rice Cake” appetizer).
